Lunching AFEX with RCREEE and UNDP

During the Cairo Sustainable Energy Week, AFEX 2023 was launched by our lead expert and director, in collaboration with RCREEE and UNDP.

The Arab Future Energy Index™ (AFEX) represents the first indigenous Arab index designed to monitor and analyze sustainable energy competitiveness and governance in the region. Since its inception in 2013, AFEX™ has emerged as an essential tool for policy assessment and benchmarking. It offers both quantitative and qualitative analysis for key renewable energy and energy efficiency market dimensions. The index ranks 20 Arab countries based on more than 50 indicators that reveal essential energy market aspects such as policies, institutional and technical capabilities, strategies, socioeconomic data, and investments.

AFEX 2023 assesses the progress made by countries across the region on SDG 7 on energy and the Paris Agreement. The index evaluates progress on regulatory and institutional structures, financial innovations, policy frameworks, and public and private investments. This year's report underscores regional accomplishments in all three objectives of SDG 7, including universal access to clean energy, expanding the share of renewable energy in the energy mix, and increasing energy efficiency.
